Our first internship day

Our first internship day at the Smithsonian had arrived. So we left the house at 7.45 to bring all the girls to school, afterwards Anna, Robin and I drove to Gamboa, the trip took around 30 minutes. We met with Rigoberto again and we set in the 1st container for like 30 minutes because he still had to eat his breakfast. There are 7 cooled containers for the frog research department. In the 1st there is the computer and the eating area. In the 4th there is a whole organised breeding area for the crickets whom the frogs eat. In the 5th there is a whole fruitfly breeding area, whom the frogs also eat. In the 6th and 7th container the frogs are held. They have 3 species of frogs, the atelopus glyphus, the biggest kind they hold there, the atelopus limosus and the atelopus zeteki, which is also called the Golden Frog. All these species are critically endangered and need to be researched so the diseases they have can be cured. So we started our work day in the 6th tank with the frogs. I started cleaning the aquariums with a hose and Robin had to refill the tadpoles feeding pads. Afterwards I had to check all the water in the tadpoles tanks. I had to check the Ph value, the salt level, the conduction level and many more things like the oxygen percentage etc etc. Then we went to the 7th tank to hose all the aquariums with the frogs. When we were done it was break time so we set down in the 1st container and had a break for like 90 minutes. The Panamenian relax level is very high. After the break we had to cut cups and wire netting for the rest of the time. I thought this was less fun than the frog part because it had less to do with the frogs. So we took the local bus back to Cardenas Village around 3PM. Well the local bus is a real experience, salsa music on and a singing driver is something you do not see every day. Well here in Panama it is normal. What also surprised me was the price of the 30 minute ride, 65 dollarcents. We watched 2 movies before going to dinner and those were: Johnny English reborn and Django Unchained. Both very funny movies I will recommend you watch them. We ate maceroni and cheese, something I never ate and the feelings about it were mixed afterwards. So this was already our 5th day in Panama and I feel like I am getting used to the time difference and the temperature.
